The Ultimate Grand Prize

Yesterday, the top ten finalists in the running to win the 2012 CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund competition were announced. The organization, which was established in 2003, is for budding designers that will compete for a mentorship from an industry icon, and a cash prize. By the end of the month, the designers will show their collections to a group of esteemed judges, which will be followed by designing jewelry for Tiffany & Co., and putting on a runway show at Los Angeles’s Chateau Mormont. Last year Joseph Altuzarra was the lucky winner, walking away with a $300,00 prize. On November 13 a winner will be declared, and one of the following finalists will win the ultimate grand prize….Good luck!

You can expect everything from clothing to home goods, and though the prices range, most items will be under $60. Marchesa, Rodarte, Diane von Furstenberg and Prabal Gurung are just a few of the designers involved with the anticipated collection. To all the recessionista’s out there: mark your calendars for December 1st…..and let the countdown begin!

With Love, Paris Fashion Week

Many fabulous runway shows later, Paris fashion week comes to an end leaving us all dreaming of couture. Here are my favorite designs, but I have to admit the Chanel show is what truly stole my heart away…Thanks Karl.

A Dior Debut

Donatella Versace and Ricardo Tisci may have couture shows in Paris this week, but that did not stop them from being part of the audience at Raf Simmon’s debut at the Dior Paris couture show Monday afternoon. Along with them, Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz, Christopher Kane, Olivier Theyskens, Diane von Furstenberg, Pierre Cardin and Azzedine Alaia were the other designers in attendance. The fashion show had one of the highest appearances of designers supporting another designers show….ever. In almost all of the 54 designs, Simmons references back to the first decade of the house. Simmons is only the fifth designer to fill the position of creative director since Christian founded the company. He was selected carefully for his expertise to fill the spot which was previously held by John Galliano. Bar jackets, tuxedos, cigarette pants, ball-gown dresses, florals and bold colors were all seen on the runway. With a new creative director, and a very impressive debut collection from Simmons, Dior may make it’s comeback as one of the top powerhouses of fashion. Designers beware.

These are a few of my many favorite looks…

A Lively Fashion Week

Blake Lively has morphed into her alter ego Serena van der Woodsen, and has become the ultimate ‘it girl’ and fashion icon. The fashion choices she makes for her appearances and every day life are never a let down. Not to mention, her ensembles are usually paired with a swanky pair of Louboutins, a present from Christian himself. So what’s the newest in Lively’s week of fashion? A stunning Zuhair Murad Sping 2012 Couture gown to the Savages premiere Monday night, and two white dresses at the Late Show with David Letterman Tuesday morning. She arrived at Letterman in a Jenny Packham cocktail dress, and left wearing Marchesa. This was the first time Lively was spotted in a Jenny Packham design. So which look is your favorite?

Governing the Island

There are no fashion rules when it comes to music festivals. This is true for everyone, even the fashion designers in the audience (ahem, a very casual Alexander Wang spotted). People express their fashion choices in relation to where they are going to be and what kind of music they will be listening to, and that’s always fun to dress up to……Yes, I’m a confessed festival lover. With that being said, there will be those in the crowd that shine through their fashion choices more than others. This passed weekend at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival, Randall’s Island was swamped with everything from casual to over the top fashion. Here are my favorite looks, keeping it boho-casual.

Spider-Senses and Fashion-Senses

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are some of this Summer’s hottest movie stars, but even hotter is their style. Last night, at the Paris premiere of The Amazing Spiderman, the pair showed off their red carpet looks. Stone stunned in a black sequined Gucci ensemble, and Garfield looked more ‘super slick’ than ‘super hero’ in a wine-red Balenciaga suit. With their fashion sense evolving along with their fame, I can’t wait to see what’s in store AFTER the movie comes out!

The Jil Sander Comeback

This Saturday at the Piazza Castello in Milan, the Jil Sander label will present a menswear collection designed by………..Jil Sander. This will mark the first collection in seven years designed by Jil herself, as she serves as creative director of the brand once again. Raf Simmons, who filled the position since 2005, has “somehow” been nixed as the creative director after Jil wanted the position. Raf is now the creative director of Christian Dior in Paris. Jil has most of her 2013 women’s collection already prepared, and gives a heads up there will be lots of dresses.

Here are my favorite looks from the Spring 2012 collection-Looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Spring 2013!

A Times Square Affair

No one can disagree that the streets of NYC are a catwalk of amazing trends from all over the world. This Friday night, NYC will be even more fashionable as Project Runway’s live fashion show will grace Times Square. It will be a public event that allows everyone to share in the celebration of the hit show’s 10th season. Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia will all be in attendance as the 16 designers kick off the season with their designs.

If you’re interested in attending, the fashion show will be located at the Times Square Northern Triangle, which borders Broadway & 7th Avenue between 46th and 47th Street at 8:15PM
